“…I would wish with all my heart that my music has spread to an increasing number of people loving it, finding solace and support in it…”

P. TCHAIKOVSKY WORLD TOUR

PROJECT BACKGROUND: XIX CENTURY

In 1888 P. Tchaikovsky has started his first tour along Europe as a conductor. He was met with admiration in Berlin, Prague, Paris.

May 1891 Tchaikovsky was the only invited composer from Europe for the opening of Carnegie Hall in New York where he conducted the New York Symphony orchestra.

Triumphant arrival of the composer to London took place in May 1893.

P. Tchaikovsky was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cambridge University in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Musical society of Cambridge University. His concerts were a great success in Cambridge and London.

The leaders of the Royal musical society invited the composer for the tour. But a tragic death of P. Tchaikovsky on the 6th of November 1893 put an end to the plans.

In 2018, it will be 125 years since the date of death of the great composer.
